NEPAD COLLABORATES WITH SDGS TO ACHIEVE ITS MANDATE

The National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), Hon. Princess Gloria Akobundu says NEPAD Nigeria will collaborate with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President (OSSAP) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to drive social and developmental programmes towards achieving its mandate.

Princess Akobundu made this statement during a courtesy visit to the Senior Special Assistant to the president on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Princess Adejoke Orelope-adefulire in her office recently. She added that to achieve the NEPAD vision to “Build an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in the global arena”, NEPAD Nigeria has developed strategies to collaborate with relevant bodies to ensure that this vision is achieved.

The NEPAD boss in line with efforts to drive her vision embedded in the 4-R Agenda to rebrand, reposition, re-align and re-launch NEPAD Nigeria  as an in-country facilitator of the African Union policies, programmes and projects is building a synergy between NEPAD, relevant MDAs, States and Local Governments and critical stakeholders.

Furthermore, the NEPAD boss said that the mandate of NEPAD and SDGs have a lot in common and that NEPAD has developed a work-plan to enable the two agencies effectively and successfully implement programmes that will move Nigeria towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

In her response, the SSAP on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-adefulire said that poverty has become a global issue and said that her office is ready to partner with NEPAD especially in programmes that are related to SDGs 1-6 which are geared towards poverty eradication as well as programmes that  promote peace, human and environmental development, especially the empowerment of women and youths.
